Your Healthy Family: New breast cancer treatment helping southern CO patients now

On the heels of the latest recommendations by the American Society of Clinical Oncologists Dr. Uchenna Njiaju couldn’t be more thrilled with the new guidelines on breast cancer treatment for certain patients that she can begin using right now.   Based on the results of a genetic test, now many women with estrogen fueled breast cancer that hasn’t spread to the lymph nodes can safely be spared chemotherapy.

The American Society of Clinical Oncologists (ASCO) made major headlines recently because of the new guidelines for treatment for certain kinds of breast cancer.   I spoke with Dr. Uchenna Njiaju an Oncologist with UCHealth Memorial who tells me “This is huge news for anyone involved in breast cancer care, patients who have breast cancer and the people who treat them." 

Your Healthy Family: Age 45 now recommended to begin colon cancer screening

Colon cancer is the fourth most common cancer diagnosed among U.S. adults, and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths, but many colon cancers can be prevented with regular screenings. And now, the recommendation for when a person should be screened for colon cancer is changing from age 50 to 45.
