Today’s Forecast:
The two main stories in the weather department today are heat and smoke. We're going to see a lot of warmth this afternoon with highs likely just a couple degrees shy of heat records in Colorado Springs and Pueblo! Smoke is going to become very thick later today and tonight as it blows south across the Palmer Divide and then is pushed west up against the mountains.
COLORADO SPRINGS: High: 84; Low: 47. Warm with light wind and very smoky skies through the afternoon and evening. The heat record today is 86 degrees.
PUEBLO: High: 89; Low: 40. Hot with smoky to hazy skies in the afternoon and evening. The heat record today is 92 degrees.
CANON CITY: High: 87; Low: 53. Hot with light winds and smoky skies through the afternoon and evening hours.
WOODLAND PARK: High: 74; Low: 44. Warm with light winds and smoky to hazy skies from the afternoon through the overnight hours.
TRI-LAKES: High: 70s; Low: 40s. Warm and smoky today, especially in the afternoon and evening hours.
PLAINS: High: 90s; Low: 40s. Hot and hazy today but the heaviest wildfire smoke will be pushed west away from the plains in the afternoon.
WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High: 80s; Low: 40s. Hot with light winds today and thicker smoke in the afternoon and evening hours.
Extended Outlook:
Wildfire smoke could still be dense early tomorrow morning before the skies clear out a bit in the afternoon. We'll be about a degree or two warmer tomorrow compared to today, with Friday also generally in the 80s and lower 90s. Saturday looks a bit cooler with high fire danger.
Sunday through Tuesday a large system will move across Colorado bringing wind, cooler air, and a chance for rain and snow. Rain and snow chances are best over the mountains, but chances southern Colorado could get rain and snow on Monday are growing.
