Friday Evening Forecast…a temperature turn down

Tame weather for the next 5-7 days, but there are storm risks in the afternoons and evenings for awhile. By far, the highest risks are for the Plains, east of the I-25 corridor. But, given a cool front passing Friday evening, and some monsoonal moisture getting tugged north by the tail of the front, it is hard to say where the cutoff for storms will be. Here’s why. We are under an upper level pattern somewhat favorable for storms. It is a mildly cyclonic circulation aloft. But near the surface, (lowest 3000 feet), it is much drier and winds are slack…so there’s no assistance there. This would lead to high-based activity, like virga today. Even Saturday & Sunday, near the I-25 corridor, it would be similar. Given all the conditions needed for a storm to occur, the best chances for rain are both weekend afternoons and for the Plains, and Tuesday afternoon for most of the area. It appears that ingredients for storms will decrease a week from today, from Friday through that weekend…

Colorado Springs: Low: 58, High : 78. Early sprinkle aside, mostly to partly cloudy tonight. Partly sunny Saturday, PM storm possible.

Pueblo: Low: 60, High : 84. Early sprinkle aside, mostly to partly cloudy tonight. Partly sunny Saturday, PM storm possible.

Canon City: Low: 61, High : 83. Early sprinkle aside, mostly to partly cloudy tonight. Partly sunny Saturday, PM storm possible.

Woodland Park: Low: 48, High : 67. Early sprinkle aside, partly cloudy tonight. Partly sunny Saturday, PM shower possible.

Tri Lakes: Low: 55, High : 75. Early sprinkle aside, mostly to partly cloudy tonight. Partly sunny Saturday, PM storm possible.

Plains: Low: 62, High : 90. Evening shower, then decreasing clouds tonight. Partly sunny Saturday, late day  storm likely.

Walsenburg/Trinidad: Low: 60, High : 86. Decreasing clouds tonight. Partly sunny Saturday, PM storm possible.

Extended Outlook…A PM storm is possible every day through Wednesday, but the best chances are in the Plains Saturday & Sunday, and for most our area Tuesday. Temperature-wise, nothing hot for the next week.
