EL PASO COUNTY — Colorado State Patrol is investigating a crash that left one motorcyclist dead and another injured on I-25 just south of Pikes Peak International Raceway just before 6 p.m. Saturday night.
When they arrived, troopers determined a Nissan Altima was driving in the right lane and collided with two Harley Davidson motorcycles traveling in the left lane. Colorado State Patrol said the Nissan continued north, losing control and traveling off the right side of the road. Both Harley Davidson motorcycles traveled off the left side of the road. One motorcycle rolled, ejecting the driver. That driver, identified as 32-year-old Erick Rios Lopez, was pronounced deceased on-scene. Lopez was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash
The other motorcycle rider, 23-year-old Nathanael Hauser, continued north in the median and rolled. Hauser sustained minor injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Nissan, 44-year-old Shannon Burton, fled the scene and was located in Fountain. Burton was wearing her seatbelt during the crash and was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol and speed are not factors in the crash.
