The Switchbacks FC could soon be returning to the field for competition next month.

On Thursday, the USL Championship Board of Governors voted in favor of a return to play for the 2020 season, with a provisional start date set of July 11.

"I am so impressed with our USL Championship league and franchise partners across the nation choosing to invest more in staff, players, and communities in the midst of uncertainty," said Switchbacks President, Nick Ragain. "We have taken our first step in bringing back normalcy."

For the past two weeks, Colorado Springs has been back on the pitch at Weidner Field, practicing under strict health protocols which include masks and a daily check of each player's temperature.

It seems like an eternity since the club bested Oklahoma City 2-1 in their season opener on March 7th. Nearly four months later the team is excited to pick up where they left off.

"It's a bit of a relief at first, it's like we're finally back out here," goalkeeper Sean Melvin said. "That's one of the biggest things is that we're rested, our coaches, have tried to keep us engaged mentally. We want to build off of that momentum, started off super well, going to come back in the best shape we can, be as ready as we can and try and build off that."
