This week marks the halfway point of the high school football regular season in Colorado. To celebrate, we have a solid Class 4A Southern League clash as Pueblo West travels to Mesa Ridge for the Friday Football Fever: Game of the Week.

The Cyclones have picked up where they left off last season, cruising past Cheyenne Mountain (42-0) and Air Academy (33-0) to begin the year, 2-0.

It has been a tougher road for the Grizzlies, a young squad trying to find their footing after losing a significant number of upperclassman after last year. Mesa Ridge is off to an 0-2 start after tough losses to Legend (42-0) and Rampart (28-6)

In 2019, Pueblo West cruised to a 40-0 win in a meeting between the two schools but both squads expect a closer battle this Friday night.

"It's going to be a challenge, it's Pueblo West, they're always tough," Grizzlies head coach Rob Braaten said. "You need to match that toughness and that's what we've been working on."

"Mesa Ridge is dang good no doubt about it, they're athletic, they're coached well," Cyclones head coach Clint Buderus said. "They do things well on both sides of the ball and they're really scary how athletic they are. We just need to play our best, continue to improve and things will be OK."
