Meet Dr. John R. Burroughs, M.D., P.C.
Dr. Burroughs grew up in Colorado Springs graduating from Air Academy High School. He then graduated with honors from the University of Texas. He completed his medical degree in 1993 at the highly-selective Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine) in Maryland on a full Air Force scholarship. His skills and abilities in ophthalmic plastic surgery were recognized early in his training, and he was encouraged by his residency professors to seek subspecialty oculoplastic surgery training. In 2004, he received a meritorious service medal and honorable discharge from the USAF. He then completed a highly selective 2-year American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery fellowship in Facial and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served as Chief of Oculoplastics and Orbital Surgery at the Salt Lake VA hospital, and as an Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology for the University of Utah. Dr. Burroughs was heavily recruited by numerous academic centers and his Utah practice enticed him to permanently join, but he instead returned to Colorado Springs in 2006. Since being back in Colorado, he was appointed an adjunct professor for Rocky Vista University Osteopathic Medical School.
Dr. Burroughs is board-certified and a Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Burroughs has been a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association since 1989. He is also a member in good standing with other medical societies that include the El Paso County Medical Society and Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Burroughs is a specialist of the eyelids, orbits, and face. Dr. Burroughs has treated tens of thousands of patients, and he is a “doctor’s doctor” frequently requested by other physicians and nurses to perform surgery on themselves or their family members. He has 20 years of botulinum neuromodulator (Wrinkle Blocker) experience, and he also offers non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments with dermal fillers, chemical peels, fraxel, skin tightening, cellulite reduction, photofacials, laser hair removal, and Latisse®. He is frequently consulted, by other surgeons, to repair complications arising from surgery performed around the eyes. He performs over 1000 surgical procedures on over 600 patients annually.
Dr. Burroughs received many decorations during his military tour that include the Aerial Achievement and Meritorious Service medals. Dr. Burroughs is also a peer-selected member of Best Doctors in America, which represents the top 5% of physicians nationwide. Burroughs has also been elected to Best Doctors for Executives in Colorado and to America’s Top Ophthalmologists for his work as an Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon by the Consumer’s Research Council of America. Most recently in 2015, he was newly peer-selected to America’s Best Physicians, Colorado Top 10 Plastic Surgeons by Top 10 America, and Top 10 Best in Colorado by American Institute of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Burroughs deeply cares for his patients and aims to provide the most competent, ethical, and compassionate care possible. He has participated in many humanitarian and medical mission trips. He views his practice of medicine as a calling and treats patients across the entire economic spectrum. Because of his compassion and competence, colleagues often refer him “charity” patients with the toughest situations. His professional mission is to strive daily to serve his patients as if he is serving the Lord (Col. 3:23-24).
