Shawn Shanle joined the News5 team in October of 2023, as a photojournalist. Growing up in a cornfield in the middle of Illinois, Shawn graduated Cum Laude with two Bachelor of Science degrees in Cinema/Photography and Radio/Television with a minor in Art from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2012. GO SALUKIS!
He started in journalism in 2014, covering stories for ABC20/FOX55 in Springfield, IL. There, he perfected his skills while covering stories like a three-year budget crisis, a tragic plane crash, and the Chicago Cubs’s historic 2016 World Series Championship. He was one of the record-breaking 5 million plus people who gathered for the victory parade in Chicago.
He joined the Southern Colorado market in 2017 as the morning show photographer for FOX21. There, he perfected his skills in live production and was able to pull off some very memorable live shots. His proudest moment was helping to microwave a turkey live on air for Thanksgiving. Side note, it was delicious.
When he is not working, Shawn enjoys spending time with friends, playing the nerdiest of board and video games, and hanging out with his best four-legged friend Bentley.
