PUEBLO — The Pueblo Zoo was recently approved for federal funds under the Paycheck Protection Program to help pay its workers.

The zoo received $250,000 from the PPP, which helps businesses pay their employees during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Over 60 percent of our staff is essential staff and are required to take care of our animals -- feed them and make sure they are staying healthy -- so this funding is crucial for us to take care of our animals," said Abigail Krause, Executive Director of Pueblo Zoo.

The zoo also has an animal art auction to help cover animal care expenses. That runs until May 10.
