JACKSON COUNTY, Colo. — After what fire officials described as aggressive fire behavior Monday, the Mullen Fire burning in southern Wyoming and northern Colorado is now at 161,069 acres, growing by 9,369 acres.
In an update on the Mullen Fire Facebook page, Information Officer John Peterson said the area of the Mullen Fire that's crossed into Colorado is "settling down" and they're seeing less spot fires as in previous days. They continue to focus on protecting structures.
The fire remained at 14% containment. Multiple mandatory evacuations remain in place. Jackson County Sheriff's Office issued mandatory evacuations for the area north of the three-way of Hwy 127 and Hwy 125, as well as east of 125 by the North Sand Hills and Mendenhaul. In Larimer County, mandatory evacuations are in place for the Roach and Hohnholz areas along CR 103.
The Southern Area Blue Team assumed command of the fire from the Rocky Mountain Blue Team Tuesday. They're expecting winds from the west with gusts up to 30 miles per hour and even lower humidity than Monday.
The Mullen Fire started 38 miles west of Laramie, Wyoming on Sept. 17. It crossed into Colorado Sept. 30. The cause remains under investigation.
