PUEBLO — The suspect who died following a shooting involving police in Pueblo Tuesday evening has been identified.
Pueblo Police Chief Chris Noeller says he was 34-year-old Billy Soto. According to police, Soto had an attempted murder warrant for in shooting in Pueblo that happened in February.
The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. near the intersection of West Mesa Avenue and Cedar Street, which is located near Bessemer Park.
According to police, an officer spotted Soto in the area and pulled up to talk to him. According to police, Soto immediately shot and hit the officer.
They say additional officers and deputies with the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office responded and additional shots were fired.

Police say Soto ran and continued shooting at officers. They say he hit two other officers. According to police, officers returned fire and Soto was injured during the incident.
According to police, Soto was pronounced dead at the scene. Chief Noeller says he was out on bond on three felony cases.
All three officers who were shot were taken to the hospital. Police say they are all in stable condition and are undergoing surgeries. At this time, the names of the officers have not been released.
The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office says the four deputies that assisted police in this incident have been placed on paid administrative leave per department policy.
The 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CRIT), which is led by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will conduct the investigation.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis released the following statement regarding this incident:
“Our men and women in uniform work every day on the front lines, and put themselves in harm’s way to protect our lives and communities. Pueblo is a strong community, especially in tough times like this. I am closely monitoring this situation and getting regular updates, and The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is actively supporting the investigation with support from State Patrol. I applaud the actions of everyone involved in stopping the violent suspect, and am praying for the three officers who were injured in this attack."
Chief Noller also said the blood of his officers lays at the steps of the capitol. He says the "soft on crime" legislation passed by lawmakers let Soto go loose.
