PUEBLO — Schools in Pueblo will now have an extra week of Spring Break as part of the effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Just this morning, state health officials confirmed a male patient in Pueblo County has tested as presumptive positive for COVID-19. Further details on the patient are not yet available. To date, only 9 tests for COVID-19 have taken place on the local level in Pueblo.

Spring Break for District 60 and District 70 will start on Monday and continue until Friday, March 28. Students and staff are expected to return to classes on March 30.

Officials announced there will be intensive efforts to conduct deep cleanings at all schools, district facilities and buses. Parents and guardians should expect further information on schedules and testing to be delivered from the districts.

The districts will also provide more information on a continuation of school lunch meals in a drive-thru setting. Further communication on those events will go directly to parents and guardians.

There are no details or plans available at this time on the potential for distance learning provided by the districts.

Gov. Jared Polis announced Friday morning there are now 72 presumptive positive cases in the state with three in critical condition. The total includes one case the state called "indeterminate" that is being treated as a presumptive positive.

The state is awaiting verification from the Centers for Disease Control. Polis warned the number of cases will spike as public health officials conduct more testing, including a drive-thru program in the Denver-metro and Colorado Springs.

The state lab has completed tests on more than 400 people since it started testing on Feb. 28. In the Pikes Peak Region, there is one patient, a male in his 40s. See a list of the number of cases per county below.

The three Catholic dioceses in Colorado — Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo — have decided to cancel all public Masses, effective immediately, the Archdiocese of Denver confirmed Friday.
