AURORA, Colo. — A male juvenile died after a shooting at the Aurora Town Center Friday afternoon, police said.

Nathan Poindexter was identified as the victim, according to the Crowley Foundation, a college prep program for Denver-area youth. Poindexter was active in the program for the last three years, officials with the foundation told Denver7.

Officer Anthony Camacho with the police department said around 4 p.m. Friday, officers working inside the Town Center received reports of gunshots inside the JCPenney store on the first floor. When officers arrived at the scene, they found one person with a gunshot wound. That person was taken to a local hospital. At 6:20 p.m., the police department announced that the person had died. They confirmed around 8:15 p.m. that he was a juvenile.

He said nobody has been arrested in connection to the case.

"We are currently working through a lot of information and speaking with witnesses to gather any leads that we can and try to ascertain why this happened," Camacho said.

He said police believe there is no threat to the general public. He also said this appears to have been an isolated incident, not an active shooter situation.

He said at least two people were involved — the deceased juvenile male and a shooter — but there may be more.

A witness told Denver7 that he saw two men chasing after two other men inside the mall. A short time later, he heard two gunshots, he said.
