Our Governor serves as the head of the executive branch, approving or vetoing bills passed by the Colorado General Assembly and putting for their vision for the state.
Republican Walker Stapleton is the current Treasurer of Colorado and has held the position since 2010. Following his win in the Republican Primary for governor this summer, Stapleton selected current state lawmaker, pilot, and U.S. Navy Veteran Lang Sias as his running mate for lieutenant governor. Stapleton is a relative of the Bush family, and among his endorsements include Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers and President Donald Trump.
Unity party candidate Bill Hammons is a life insurance producer who relocated to Colorado in the 2000’s. He’s in favor of replacing the Colorado income tax with a revenue measure based on fossil fuel consumption, defending Colorado by resurrecting the federal “Star Wars” SDI program with Colorado as its focus, and supports deeper government surveillance of social media to prevent tragedies. His running mate for Lt. Governor is Eric Bodenstab.
Libertarian Scott Helker is a real estate investor who supports a limited government which he believes would expand the solutions available to the people of Colorado. Helker’s running mate for Lt. Governor is Michelle Poague.
Walker Stapleton was with his family as he addressed supporters after learning he had lost the race for Colorado Governor to Jared Polis. He released the following in a press release shortly after conceding defeat:
“I believe a life of service is a life worth living. It’s why I served as State Treasurer, and why I put my name forward for the office of Governor. As we move forward, I’ll continue to look for ways to serve the state and people that I love. Thank you for supporting us every step of the way.”
