FREMONT COUNTY – Republican Allen Cooper has handily won the election for Fremont County Sheriff by carrying more than 60% of the vote.

Earlier this year, Cooper told News5 his idea to address the illegal drug problem is to “develop a prolific offender program for those people that are committing the most egregious crimes in the drug arena. They need to have some stiff sentences handed down to them.”

Sheriff Jim Beicker’s resigned suddenly earlier this year. Beicker had served as Fremont County Sheriff since 2003. He officially stepped down in late August when Interim Sheriff Ty Martin officially was named the interim sheriff. Martin will serve until the elected replacement is sworn in.
