This Saturday in Monarch, dozens of competitors grabbed their kayaks and headed to the slopes, everyone racing for the top spot in the ski resort’s 13th annual Kayaks on the Snow event.
The self-proclaimed “crazy event” featured waves of racers going head to head down a specially crafted course that ends in a man-made pond.
After splash down, racers paddled their way furiously to the finish line among cheers and flying snowballs.
“Well, it’s really sick, it’s a lot faster than I thought it would be for sure,” stated one competitor.
“There’s snowballs flying, everyone’s cheering for you, the stoke is really high and you’re just trying to hit the water and flip over,” said another racer.
The event, drawing quite a crowd, is one of the resort’s memorable events that helps to close out the spring skiing season.
