Early Saturday morning, more than 3,000 Colorado Springs volunteers swarmed a wide host of service projects, donating time and effort to their community.

CityServe Day, an annual huge service effort, encompassed sites as far east as Peyton and as far north as Monument, and is organized by a group called COSILoveYou.

The group is dedicated to bringing churches across the Springs together and partnering with the city in order to build up the community, better serve those in need and, in the case of today (and according to their website), “Beautify, rebuild, and restore special places in Colorado Springs.”

Last year, COSILoveYou organized more than 2,000 volunteers and 35 church partners for CityServe Day, while this year the number has increased to more than 3,000 volunteers and 50 plus church partners.

It’s not just about a one day or weekend event, but about service throughout the year.

“The goal was never to do one day of service across our community; it’s to engage people in serving the community every day of the year,” commented Stu Davis, director of community mobilization at the Springs Rescue Mission.

The hope is that those who hear about the event or participate will feel inspired to continue to serve in their own capacity every day of the year.
