COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — A new timed-entry reservation system for driving to the summit of Pikes Peak is set to launch on May 1, 2022.
Reserved time slots will be required from May 27, 2022, to September 30, 2022.
The time slots are meant to make the drive to the summit hassle-free and enjoyable to make sure there's space for parking.
The reservation allows a two-hour window for guests to arrive at the gateway, ensuring parking space on the summit.
Although driving to the top requires a reservation, entrance to the Summit Visitor Center doesn't.
If you want to avoid the hassle of buying a ticket and reserving a time slot, there's another option.
Those who don't make a reservation can take a complimentary shuttle from the Devil's Playground parking lot starting May 31, and running through September 15.
The shuttle ride from the lot will take about 15 minutes.
Once you arrive at the top, you will be able to experience the new Summit Visitor Center, which is now open to the public. There is still some construction going on, but it's expected to be finished by September.
“The new Summit Visitor Center has really reinvigorated the visitor experience on Pikes Peak,” said Skyler Rorabaugh, Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain manager. “With more people visiting than ever before, coupled with longer stays to take in all we have to offer, it’s pushed us to rethink our entry system. Reservations will allow us to eliminate parking uncertainty for guests, making the drive smoother than ever.”
The Visitor's Center is replacing the 1960's era Summit House.
All highway access is weather permitting and there are no refunds.
“Over the last few years, our outdoor attractions have hit record numbers of visitors,” said Doug Price, President & CEO of Visit Colorado Springs. “By adopting a reservation system, our city is helping to support responsible recreation and tourism at Pikes Peak and enable more reliable trip planning for our visitors.”
Those who would like to buy tickets can do so online one month in advance.
