COLORADO CITY — Prosecutors in the Tenth Judicial District are pursuing charges of felony theft and embezzlement against David Valdez, a former Colorado City District Manager, related to thousands of dollars missing from cash utilities payments.

The investigation started in June when Pueblo County Sheriff's Office detectives received a report of customer's payments not making it into the Metro District's bank account.

According to the sheriff's office, at least two customers paid cash to Valdez for water usage, but there is no record of the cash transaction being deposited.

Valdez resigned from his position with the Metro District in October 2018 after 8 years in the job.

A court summons is out for Valdez to appear before a judge about the charges.
