COLORADO SPRINGS — Ahead of the Super Bowl, hundreds of people showed up to hit the pavement in downtown Colorado Springs in support of two local organizations.

More than 1,500 runners participated in the Super Half Marathon and Game Day 5K. Out of those runners, a record-breaking 900 people signed up for the Game Day 5K. Last year just over 700 people ran in that race.

Jennifer Kent, one of the runners, said being a part of a group at races makes her want to improve by serving as a motivator.

The event is a fundraiser for the Pikes Peak Road Runners and Pikes Peak Sports. Both organizations support healthy living and running in Colorado Springs.
