COLORADO SPRINGS — A woman is dead after a shooting on the southeast side of Colorado Springs off Monterey Road and South Circle Drive.

CSPD received a report of shooting at 5:25 a.m. from the Thrive at Elevation Apartments at 1810 Monterey Road.

When CSPD officers and Colorado Springs Fire Department personnel arrived on scene, they located an adult woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

First responders pronounced the woman dead on scene. CSPD says the preliminary investigation indicates prior to the shooting, two groups were involved in a disturbance at this location.

During the disturbance, an unknown suspect fired at least one round from a firearm, striking the woman.

Based on preliminary evidence and nature of this incident, detectives from the CSPD’s Violent Crimes Section will be taking over the investigation. Detectives are currently in the process of developing information about the incident and those involved.

Even though the El Paso County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death, this death is being investigated as a homicide.

CSPD currently does not have all the involved parties accounted for and they are asking that if anyone has any information, to please call their dispatch center at (719) 444-7000; or if you wish to remain anonymous, you can call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-STOP (7867) or (800) 222-8477.
