PUEBLO — The Pueblo Police Department is set to get more money to help homeless people return home.

The City Council is giving the department $25,000 for this program, which is run by police chaplains.

In order to qualify for the program the person asking for a bus ticket must have resources, family or loved ones at the destination they decided to choose.

"It is incredibly helpful because, like you said, our officers are out there. They are meeting these people face to face. Often times they come across people who have no place to go. They are stuck out in the cold and if the officers have a resource to get people back to their home, back to a support system, then that's great for our officers and the homeless," Captain Kenny Rider, with the Pueblo Police Department said.

If you know someone who could use this program, call Pueblo police at (719) 553-2502.
