FOUNTAIN — A 12-year-old girl died Wednesday evening in an accidental shooting, according to the Fountain Police Department.
Police responded to a home in the 6800 block of Kasson Drive in Fountain on a reported shooting.
According to the department, the 12-year-old girl was shot in the cheek and later died from her injuries.
Fountain Police said an off-duty El Paso County deputy, who is a neighbor, performed life-saving measures until first responders arrived, but the efforts were unsuccessful.
Who fired the shot is still under investigation, according to police, but they are investigating it as an accidental shooting.
