COLORADO SPRINGS — Drivers will see overnight crews on an 8-mile stretch of I-25 in southern Colorado Springs starting Monday night.

From Feb. 24 to Feb. 27 southbound lanes and the outside shoulder will close between Academy Boulevard and Santa Fe Avenue in Fountain, or milepost 135 to 127.

Those closures will take place from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Closures on northbound lanes in the same area will be in place from March 2 through March 5.

The lane closures will allow crews to perform geotechnical drilling and sampling to check on soil conditions in the area.

Speed limits will be reduced to 55 mph in the work area, and drivers should expect delays during the closures.

The work is part of the I-25 Safety Improvement Project, which is part of the Military Access, Mobility, & Safety Improvement Program Grant.

CDOT says the work will improve safety in the project area by reducing accidents, injuries, and deaths.
