CALHAN, Colo. — A new solar energy facility that will supply power to Colorado Springs Utilities customers has started operations Monday.
The Grazing Yak Solar Project is owned by NextEra Energy Resources and has more than 119,000 panels that will give 35 megawatts of electricity to CSU customers, according to a press release.
CSU says the solar array is located near Calhan on 278 acres of land.
The partnership between NextEra Energy and CSU will last the next 25 years.
This solar project came online in November and is the second "universal-scale solar project producing renewable energy for Colorado Springs."
With the 35 megawatts CSU will receive from the project, they said it will provide power to 13,000 homes each year.
CSU said another 60 megawatts of energy will be added in the next few months.
