MANITOU SPRINGS — Mountain Metro is proposing changes to their bus route system in Manitou Springs for the upcoming spring.

As of Wednesday, there are two proposed changes to the bus routes; one will extend Route 36 to the roundabout at Serpentine Drive and the other would reduce Route 33 services.

The extension of the roundabout would accomodate more residents in the area while the reduction from two buses to one on Route 33 would help reduce costs. According to Manitou Metro, the incline shuttle service wants to respect those who live along Ruxton Avenue and reduce congestion while also reducing the cost.

"It's a balance act basically," said Brian Vitulli, Transit Planning Supervisor for Mountain Metro. "The city of Manitou Springs is trying to address congestion and there's no doubt there is congestion, and the shuttles, both the 33 and the 36 have really worked together to help manage some of that congestion."

Mountain Metro will have a video and survey available to the public on Colorado Springs City website. For additional information regarding Mountain Metropolitan Transit, visit their page on Colorado Springs City website, or call (719) 385-RIDE (7433).
