COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs Police have identified the motorcyclist killed in a collision on North Academy Blvd. on Sunday night.

Police said 35-year-old Christopher M. Larkin was driving south in the center lane of North Academy Blvd. passing Parkmoor Village Drive, when he was struck from behind by a white pickup truck, which was driving at a high rate of speed.

Authorities said the pickup truck continued south on Academy for about 600 to 700 feet, dragging the motorcycle.

During that time, Larkin was ejected from his motorcycle onto the roadway. A white minivan, also driving south on Academy Blvd., then hit Larkin, while he was lying in the road. Larkin died on scene.

The driver of the pick-up truck, 34-year-old Shahin S. Taraghi, has been charged with vehicular homicide and DUI.

This is the 33rd traffic related fatality in Colorado Springs in 2019. At this time last year, there were 34 traffic fatalities in the city.
