COLORADO SPRINGS — A motorcyclist is dead following a single vehicle crash Friday night.

Around 9:12 p.m. Friday, Colorado Springs police were called to the scene of the crash on Rangewood Drive, north of Briargate Blvd.

According to police, a large group of motorcycles were traveling southbound on Rangewood Dr, when one of the motorcyclists hit a curb while turning. He was ejected from his motorcycle and pronounced dead on scene. Authorities said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

"We ask each motorcyclist to of course be aware of their driving, drive defensively. We also ask the other drivers on the road to be aware of motorcycles, drive defensively, and look out for your fellow citizens," Colorado Springs Police Lt. Jim Sokolik said.

Police say alcohol or drugs are not considered factors in the crash.

This is the 23rd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2019, the 5th involving a motorcycle. There were 25 traffic fatalities this time last year.
