MONUMENT — The Monument Police Department's yearly Santa on Patrol program is once again working to deliver toys to children of families who might be struggling.
On Friday, those officers were at Toys for Tots, helping to pick out gifts. Each toy selected will go to a family that was nominated by someone in their community.
Monument Police spent the afternoon selecting gifts for kids of all age ranges. In years past, officers would drive to the homes of those selected, but because of COVID, families will stop by the police station to pick up their gifts.
"The last time they saw a police officer may have been on the worst day of their life. And now suddenly those officers are coming in and bringing them some joy at Christmas time. And it really helps to build a bond between the community and the police officers," explains Russ Miller, the coordinator of Toys for Tots.
