COLORADO SPRINGS — A Colorado Springs Police Department sergeant was injured while trying to detain a confrontational man "having a mental episode" Tuesday night, according to police.

Authorities said a man was in an alley in the 1400 block of E. Boulder Street when officers arrived before 11:30 p.m. The suspect was aggressive toward the first sergeant who arrived and started to fight when the sergeant tried to detain him.

Police said the sergeant tased and pepper sprayed the suspect before he got him under control. The sergeant needed medical attention for his hand because of the altercation.

CSPD said the suspect was treated for minor injuries and booked on charges of Second Degree Assault on a Peace Officer and Obstructing a Peace Officer.
