EL PASO COUNTY — Local first responders, including the Colorado Springs Fire Chief, the Chief of Police, El Paso County Coroner, and Under-Sheriff, all rolled-up their sleeves to receive the COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday.

Wednesday was the first day UCHealth offered the vaccine to first responders in the community.

"I think it's important for the first responders and the community to see us get the vaccinations. I think we're here to show that we support this process. We're here to show that it's important to us, not only to protect ourselves but to protect the community we serve," CSPD Chief Vince Niski said.

So far, UCHealth has administered the vaccines to nearly 23,000 people statewide.
