PIKES PEAK — El Paso County Search and Rescue helped a hiker reach Pikes Peak's summit Tuesday afternoon when they didn't reach it after starting from the Bottomless Pit area.

The hiker spent Monday night there and then called for help. The Bottomless Pit is an area accessed from the Pikes Peak Highway with rock formations. The trail branches off of Barr Trail, which is almost 13 miles long and leads right up to the summit of Pikes Peak.

The team used a drone to find the hiker and posted the drone footage of the rescue on their Facebook page. The video showed one member of the rescue team rappelling down to reach the hiker, who was waiting for rescue in a crack between the rocks. The hiker was uninjured at the end of the rescue.
