DENVER — Crews are fighting a grass fire on National Forest land five miles southeast of the community of Jefferson in Park County.
As of Saturday, September 28, the following statistics have been used to describe what is being called the 821 Fire.
The size of the fire is now reported to have burned 95 acres.
Multiple engines have responded from USFS, Platte Canyon Mod, Silver Thread Mod, Northwest Fire, Jefferson Commo, Hartsel Fire and Platte Canyon Fire.
Containment is at 0%
No structures are being threatened.
No closures or evacuations have been ordered.
The cause of this fire is currently unknown, but under investigation.
Grass adn timber understory are fueling this fire.
At 8:45 a.m. the Pike & San Isabel National Forests Cimarron & Comanche National Grasslands said that there are no concerns as to whether the fire line will hold. Firefighters will engage in mopping up areas around the fire's edge. Today the public can expect less smoke, but the smoke will still be highly visible from the highway 285 corridor from Fairplay to Kenosha Pass.
The 10-acre 821 Fire, as it’s being called, was first reported around 12:47 Saturday afternoon.
No evacuations are in place, and no structures are threatened.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, firefighters from multiple agencies and a helicopter are battling the blaze.
There is no word on how the fire started.
