FORT CARSON — Fort Carson announced Monday that prescribed burns will be conducted in training areas throughout the month of December.

The Mountain Post said the burns will be conducted by the Directorates of Emergency Services and Public Works Conservation Branch beginning the first week of the month and lasting until the 31st.

The post said the burn program is critical in reducing the potential for wildland fires and will only be conducted if weather conditions are favorable. The burns are carefully planned and executed to reduce heavy vegetation that could potentially lead to and fuel wildland fires.

Fort Carson said the smoke from these burns will most likely be visible along the I-25 and Highway 115 corridors from Colorado Springs to Pueblo.

Concerned community members are encouraged to call Fort Carson at (719) 526-9849.
