Fort Carson soldier arrested, accused in death of wife over the weekend

COLORADO SPRINGS — Around 1 a.m. this past Saturday morning, Colorado Springs Police were notified of a shooting in the 2000 block of Squawbrush Ridge Grove, on the southeast side of the city.

CSPD said the call they received was placed by Dermot Blake, who said that he shot his wife. When officers arrived, they found a dead woman inside the home and Blake was taken into custody. Two children were also found uninjured at the home.

Later that morning, following the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Dermot Blake on the charges of Murder in the First Degree and Child Abuse.

According to Fort Carson, 33-year-old Sgt. Dermot A. Blake is from Lawrenceville, Georgia and had served almost four and a half years in the military.

On Monday, Feb. 22, the El Paso County Coroner identified the victim as 30-year-old Tashianna Blake, the wife of Dermot Blake.

CSPD said this is the third homicide investigation in the city in 2021. At this time last year, there were six.
