PUEBLO — It was an exciting day Saturday at the State Fair as competitive eating took a very Southern Colorado turn for the first ever World Slopper Eating Competition.

If you were on hand for the event, you might have noticed a familiar face. News 5's own Lead Forecaster, Mike Daniels took part in the celebrity contest.

Mike is no stranger to Pueblo Chiles and even though he didn't take home the top prize, he said it was still one heck of an event.

"I feel really good right now. You know, I didn't win but I was very, very competitive," Mike said. "My resolved next year for the Slopper eating contest is I'm just gonna start training earlier. You know, two, three, maybe four sloppers a day until I bring home that trophy for News 5 next year."

There's still plenty of time to enjoy a fun day at the Colorado State Fair. There is a full line up of events Sunday before it all wraps up for the year on Monday.
