OTERO COUNTY — Changes could be coming to Otero County because of wildfires.

La Junta Fire and several other agencies just spent the night battling a fire caused by dry lightning that burned 500 acres.

With the amount of fires in the area recently, there are talks that a fire ban could be put in place.

"We've had a lot of talks and the Sheriff has the primary responsibility of going into a fire ban. He does take all of our considerations and input from the Fire Chiefs to decide what we do. We are looking at weather patterns and moisture patterns," La Junta Fire Chief Brad Davidson said.

The recent fire was the third major blaze crews have had to fight in southeastern Colorado since April.
