COLORADO SPRINGS — On Monday, Colorado Springs Firefighters collected money for their annual "Fill the Boot" campaign.

The event raises funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, with the money helping transform the lives of kids who struggle with the muscle debilitating disease.

One firefighter we spoke with says he's been doing this for over 15 years and says it's very rewarding.

"We encounter a lot of folks that have had personal experiences with MDA and other related diseases and they are also really positive and can give us some first hands accounts of the benefits from the money we raise," said Lt. Don Rickert with the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

The money helps transform the lives of kids who struggle with the disease that affects 1 in 2,500 people.
