COLORADO SPRINGS — E. Las Vegas Street is closed from the 2700 block to Janitell Road for a fatal crash.
Colorado Springs Police Department says the closure is expected to last for several hours.
The call first came in around 7:50 a.m. after a Toyota sedan was traveling north on E. Las Vegas.
The Toyota sedan appeared to slide across the median and was then hit by a southbound trash truck. A woman died on the scene.
The woman was later identified as 27-year-old Erica Pantoja of Colorado Springs.
Weather was a factor but authorities aren't sure if speed is a factor. There was no evidence of drugs or alcohol.
This is the 54th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs for 2022.
