Suspect in custody following fatal shooting in southeast Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs police said they have a suspect in custody following a shooting that left one man dead Wednesday evening in a neighborhood near near Milton E. Proby and S. Academy.

Police said they arrested 56-year-old Colorado Springs man Michael A. Mills after they found a 35-year-old victim with a gunshot wound inside a home in the 3400 block of Springnite Drive around 7 p.m. Police said they found Mills inside the home, where they took him into custody. Police have not yet released a photo of Mills.

No other information about the events leading up to the shooting have been released.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. That man's name has not yet been released, pending family notification.

Police say Mills was booked into the El Paso County Jail on suspicion of second degree murder.
