CSPD identifies suspect who blew through scene of fatal traffic accident Tuesday morning

COLORADO SPRINGS — Tuesday morning around 8:45, CSPD officers were conducting traffic control after an accident in the area of S. Circle Dr.

While in the intersection, officers observed State Patrol cruisers with their lights activated following a black Oldsmobile. As the Oldsmobile approached the intersection where the crash occurred, it accelerated and drove directly at on officer, forcing him to jump out of the way, according to CSPD.

The vehicle then continued on at a high rate of speed.

CSPD said officers located the vehicle, unoccupied, about an hour later in a nearby neighborhood.

A follow up investigation identified the driver of the Oldsmobile as 20-year-old Clayton Sample, according to CSPD.

CSPD is working on getting an arrest warrant for the charges of 1st Degree Assault and Eluding. If you have any information on Sample's whereabouts, you are asked to contact CSPD or CrimeStoppers.
