COLORADO SPRINGS — A Colorado Springs man known to his children as the King of Christmas was unable to decorate his home this year.

Tom Thomas, a disabled veteran, is busy taking care of his wife. She has stage four cancer.

After reading about Thomas online, a local holiday light expert and his neighbors decided to step up and help him out.

"I felt like Christmas died this year because I was so depressed about my wife dying. You know it was hard for me to be excited about the holidays because my wife may not be here next year," Thomas said. "And then to see the response once I posted that. People sending love and prayers.

"It is absolutely amazing," Andi Thomas said. " I would never expect to see such kindness from such wonderful people. I always knew my neighbors were terrific but this is above and beyond."

Jacob Lewis saw a post about Thomas on nextdoor.com. He and other volunteers began hanging lights Saturday morning.
