Colorado State Patrol identifies person killed on Highway 24 Thursday night

CASCADE — News5 now knows the name of the man struck and killed on Highway 24 outside of Cascade on Thursday night. The Colorado State Patrol says 32-year old Charles Morath was crossing the westbound lanes of the highway at about 8:45 p.m. when he was struck by a Honda traveling in the left lane.

Morath was pronounced dead on the scene when first responders arrived. The driver of the Honda is identified as 54-year old Timothy Splinter of Woodland Park. He was not injured and he was wearing a seatbelt when he hit the pedestrian. Lanes were closed in both directions for the investigation, but Troopers directed traffic around the scene in the median.

The accident is still under investigation at this time.
