CANON CITY — Members of the Colorado National Guard are being deployed to Valley View Healthcare Center in Canon City to assist staff.
The facility is currently experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak. According to a release, more than 30 percent of the staff has tested positive and are thus unable to take care of residents.
Six National Guardsmen will work in non-clinical jobs for the next week to help staff.
The National Guard members are part of rapid response teams deployed by a newly created residential care strike team. They can be deployed to a facility when it reports staffing levels are dangerously low.
The release said the Guardsmen are receiving bi-weekly PCR COVID-19 tests.
Valley View Health Care Center provides long-term care, memory care, and behavioral health. It is managed by Vivage Senior Living.
