ROCKY FORD — The COVID-19 pandemic isn't stopping melon season in Rocky Ford.

Knapp Farms is starting to prepare for its first cantaloupe crop to sprout.

The owner said coronavirus has presented some challenges to bring in seasonal workers at the beginning, but those obstacles have been cleared for now and she is optimistic about this melon season.

"It's good to see the fields getting tilled, and things starting to green up and just looking forward to hopefully a really good crop and a good year of nice sweet melons," Gail Knapp said.

Kanpp Farms said they hope cantaloupes will be for sale at their market in the beginning of July and in supermarkets by mid-July.
