COLORADO SPRINGS — Care and Share food bank is in need of volunteers due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

"In addition to volunteers, we also need financial donations because right now we are buying food," said Lynne Telford, the CEO of Care and Share Food Bank. "That's the most efficient way for us to get food through our system. And, so, when people make a donation right now, it's going to buy food."

Many people are staying away from the food bank in fear of contracting the coronavirus, but Care and Share has taken several safety precautions to protect their volunteers such as mandatory hand washing when you check-in, wearing gloves and masks, and keeping volunteers to fewer than 10 people in an area at any time.

Because of the disruption of the economy, Care and Share is preparing for an increase in people needing assistance.

"It's an amazing sense of community," said volunteer Pamela Bunelis. "Knowing that you're actually serving a purpose for the greater good of southern Colorado. Knowing that people are going hungry and knowing that a bag or two is going go to a family that going to make all the difference in the world."
