CAÑON CITY — A Facebook post about someone wearing what appeared to be a police uniform sparks an investigation in Cañon City. According to police, the suspect was in a dark blue sedan with police lights when they contacted someone near N. 5th Street on Halloween night.
Officers determined the incident did not involve a real member of law enforcement and are now advising people on how to handle any situation in which they have doubts about a vehicle pulling them over.
Concerned drivers are advised to turn on their hazard lights as they search for a well-lit area to stop. If you are concerned about the authenticity of the person behind the wheel of the other vehicle, call 9-1-1. Additionally, you could ask someone to show identification to prove they are an officer. More importantly, do not get out of the vehicle unless your are certain the other person is a member of law enforcement.
