AURORA, Colo. — The Aurora Police Department has cleared the King Soopers off S. Peoria Street after a bomb threat was made Monday afternoon.

During a press conference, Lieutenant Carrigan Bennett said a store employee called 911 around 3:15 p.m. after the customer service desk received a bomb threat. The threat was not specific, but the caller mentioned there were "approximately five bombs potentially placed outside the store," according to Bennett.

Authorities evacuated the grocery store and its parking lot out of an abundance of caution. A shelter-in-place order was also issued for the surrounding block.

Officers, explosive detection K9s, and the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad responded to the scene. The area was swept, and no suspicious devices were found, according to Bennett.

The shelter-in-place order has since been lifted. The store was also turned over to King Soopers management.

Bennett said the investigation is ongoing, and investigators are currently following up on leads.

"It's very unfortunate that such disruption was given to shoppers this close to the holiday season. We would ask that, although nothing suspicious happened here today, nothing bad happened here today, we would ask people to be vigilant. And if you see something, say something so that we can respond appropriately," said Bennett.
