FREMONT COUNTY — The Bureau of Land Management said the Canyon Lands Fire has grown to 40 acres in size, but it is not threatening any structures at this time.

The BLM said the fire is burning in very rugged terrain and is 0% contained.

The fire, which was reported on Tuesday, is burning in BLM land off of Highway 9, about 3 miles north of Highway 50. Authorities said it was started by lightning.

A 12-person team is now working to contain the fire, and a helicopter will be making drops in the fire area Wednesday. Two more hot shot teams will arrive Thursday. Firefighters are working to set up communications, escape routes and safety zones at the fire's location.

As with any wildfire, authorities are warning people to not fly drones in the fire area because of the danger it poses to aircraft and firefighters working on the ground.
