COLORADO SPRINGS — An auto-pedestrian crash that shut down an intersection in east Colorado Springs Sunday night as police investigated the incident has reopened overnight, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
The department responded to the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and Galley Road around 10:15 p.m. Police closed all lanes of Academy and Galley to conduct its investigation.
CSPD said their investigation revealed that 62-year-old Herbert D. Shelton III of Colorado Springs was attempting to cross N. Academy Blvd. in a wheelchair when he was struck by a southbound van.
CSPD said the van remained at the scene after the crash. Shelton subsequently died as a result of the injuries he suffered during this crash.
At this time, excessive speed and impairment are not suspected to be factors in this crash, according to CSPD.
The intersection was closed for about four hours before it reopened early Monday morning.
